Foxes Set For International Action

A total of seven Foxes will be in international action over the next two weeks as the Barclays Premier League takes a back seat to the international programme.
For many of the teams in action, it will mark the start of their Euro 2016 qualifying campaigns, and with that in mind, Denmark have named Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel in their squad for a double header of matches.

First up is a tough friendly fixture with Turkey in Odense, Denmark on Wednesday 3 September before the qualifying campaign gets underway with a match against Armenia at the same venue four days later. The Danes narrowly missed out on a spot in the World Cup in the summer after finishing second in their group – a qualifying campaign during which they lost 4-0 at home to Armenia – so they will be keen to make amends.

Also set for another international cap is City skipper Wes Morgan, whose Jamaica side tackle Canada in a Toronto friendly on Tuesday 9 September.

At Under-21s level there has been another call-up for in-form defender Liam Moore to Gareth Southgate’s England. They face a Euro Qualifier double header against Lithuania and Moldova on Friday 5 and Tuesday 9 September respectively – both away from home.

Elsewhere Andy King will join up with Wales, who head straight into their qualifying campaign with a difficult trip to Andorra on 9 September in the New National Stadium.

Chris Coleman’s side have been drawn in Group B for the qualifying campaign, alongside the likes of Belgium and Bosnia-Herzogivina.

City’s only World Cup star from the summer, Riyad Mahrez, has also been handed a call up for Algeria, who tackle Ethiopia on Saturday 6 September in Ethiopia, before a home clash with Mali on the Wednesday.

Meanwhile striker Chris Wood looks set to add another New Zealand cap to his collection as the All Whites travel to Pakhtahor to take on Uzbekistan on Monday 8 September.

Along with these senior players, there’s also a call-up for Development Squad striker Simonas Stankevicius to the full Lithuania squad.

The youngster is part of the group that will take on the United Arab Emirates in Austria on Wednesday 3 September as a friendly warm-up for their opening qualifying game against San Marino on Monday 8 September – in the same group as England.

The Leicester City Academy have also been handed yet more international call-ups in recent weeks. Defender Ben Chilwell will link up with England Under-19s, Sean Burke is away with the Republic of Ireland Under-19s, while Darnell Johnson, Admiral Muskwe, Layton Ndukwu and Kairo Arlott-John all represented England at various levels in August.
