Youngsters Get Satellite Centre Surprise
A total of 10 Satellite Centres now run across Leicestershire, with the help of Premier League School Sport funding and the hard work of Leicester City Community Trust Coaches.
The sessions are also attended by the Club’s Academy scouts, and at Enderby’s Brockington College on Monday afternoon, the youngsters were delighted to be treated to an extra visit by some of their Leicester City heroes.
Last season’s top scorer David Nugent was equally delighted to be involved, having experienced first hand when he was a child just how much it means to have players attend such events.
He said: “When I was a kid I went to events like this all the time, in the youth clubs playing football. Players used to come and see us and I used to be in awe. Hopefully these boys will be looking up to us in a similar way and we can teach them some stuff as well.
“It was Everton players that used to come, like Stuart Barlow and Barry Horne. Graham Stuart came as well and as an Everton fan I was just in awe of those guys. It would be nice to think these boys look up to us like that. We have to set an example that they can follow.
“There were a couple of boys in Burnley strips as well but I bet they don’t know I played for them. They look too young. It was a few years back now. I could tell them I used to score goals for Burnley but I wear a Leicester shirt now and I am proud to play for Leicester."
