U18 Report: Brighton 2 Leicester City 3

Leicester City’s Academy side continued their excellent start to the Barclays U18 Premier League season after beating Brighton & Hove Albion 3-2 on Saturday.

The young Foxes again looked to their impressive away form after just one defeat on the road, coming in a 2-1 loss to Aston Villa last time out.
They travelled to face a Seagulls side who sat second in the table, while City occupied sixth but had two games in hand on some sides.
The youngsters missed their last league fixture against Arsenal after competing in the Under-17 Premier League International Tournament in London.
After a 1-1 draw against Real Madrid and a 3-0 victory over the Gunners, City went on to lose in the final to Tottenham Hotspur, but despite the result, the competition proved to be a valuable experience for those involved.
Turning their focus back to the Premier League, City registered their fifth win of the 2014/15 campaign against Brighton, with strikes from Conor Anderson, Danny Rowe and Keenan King earning all three points after another tough test.
The hosts struck first but City responded well and levelled through Anderson, who made it 1-1 going into the break.
Forward Rowe then put the Foxes into a 2-1 lead midway through the second 45 minutes, but this time it was Brighton’s turn to equalise, pulling it back to 2-2 with the match shaping up to be a draw.
But a late strike from King sent his side back to Leicester with another victory in what has been an enthralling season for City so far.
After the win, Academy director Jon Rudkin told LCFC.com: “It’s a very pleasing result. It was a good performance and an excellent win after going down to play a very difficult academy side in Brighton.
“While we’ve got two games in hand on the majority of the teams, Brighton sat second. It puts us in a very positive position in challenging up the league.
“I think our performances have been very positive whether it’s home or away. That positivity has held us in good stead.
“They learnt elements from the defeat to Aston Villa which his very pleasing – they’ve reacted well and performed.
“There have been some very good, tight home games – it’s been a pleasing start and hopefully this momentum will continue for the foreseeable future.
“The team has had to change – we’ve had a number of boys away on international duty while others will be involved in the Under-21s fixture against Manchester United on Monday – it’s great for all the boys that have been involved in this weekend’s win.”
The Under-18s play host to Fulham in their next fixture on Saturday 8 November knowing a win over the Cottagers could take them as high as second in the league.
