LCFC Foxes Foundation 2014/15 Partner Charities

Following another successful year of fundraising, the LCFC Foxes Foundation have announced their five partner charities for the 2014/15 season.

A stunning £140,000 was raised last year, double the total of the previous season, in support of charities across the county.

All kinds of fundraising helped to raise the cash, culminating in Club Ambassador Alan Birchenall’s 34th annual End of Season Run at the home game against Doncaster Rovers in May.

The Club will now work closely with the chosen charities in hope of raising £250,000, with the focus on children and young people – - when a host of celebrities and City legends compete in the Celebrity Soccer spectacular for the LCFC Foxes Foundation.

This season’s following partner charities are:

Leicester Hospitals Charity

Leicestershire Autistic Society

Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, Leicester & Rutland Branch

Rainbows Hospice for Children & Young People

The Lord Mayor of Leicester’s Appeal

Leicester City’s Chief Executive Officer Susan Whelan said: “The Club are delighted to announce this season’s partner charities in a year where we’re keen to give back to our local community, as well as working to help children and young people in Leicestershire.

“We’re very much looking forward beginning the fundraising and we hope that this year our wonderful supporters can continue to help towards the total with some fundraising ideas of their own.”

Among the chosen charities are the Leicestershire Autistic Society, which was formed over two decades ago. It provides support for families and professionals dealing with autism in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

Leicestershire Autistic Society chairperson said: “It’s wonderful news to be selected as a partner charity. We can do so much with the donations. It will help us sustain our funding for our much-needed club and play schemes.”

This year, Lord Mayor of Leicester Councillor John Thomas has selected three charities to support – Leicester Sea Cadets, Prostate Cancer UK and Silver Star Diabetes.

Leicester Sea Cadets offer youngsters the chance to participate in a number of action packed programmes involving anything from boating to canoeing while encouraging people to work in a team and in turn create friendships.

Prostate Cancer UK, his second chosen charity, provide cutting-edge research into tests, treatments and the causes of prostate cancer with 83 per cent of the men in the UK currently unaware of the increasing dangers of the disease.

And Silver Star Diabetes completes the Lord Mayor’s selection of charities which has been a long-standing tradition between himself and the Club.

Meanwhile, Leicester Hospitals Charity are one of the biggest and busiest NHS trusts in the country and incorporate both Leicester General, Glenfield and Royal Infirmary Hospitals.

Their team is made up of over 12,000 staff and provide a range of services, primarily for the residents of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

The Leicestershire and Rutland branch of the Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research charity tackles blood cancer, which is the most common childhood cancer, with children suffering from it facing up to three-and-a-half years of continuous chemotherapy.

Battling the problem for over 50 years, the charity also aims to improve the lives of people living with blood cancers such as leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma.

And Rainbows Hospice for Children & Young People are the fifth charity to benefit from the fantastic fundraising efforts from the Club. Located in Loughborough, Rainbows Hospice have opened the doors to children and people who love them the most.
