Respect Vital For Pearson

Leicester City boss Nigel Pearson says every side in the Barclays Premier League should be shown respect ahead of Burnley’s visit to King Power Stadium on Saturday.

The two teams come together for the first time since gaining promotion from the Sky Bet Championship to England’s top flight last season.
And Pearson believes that no matter who City are playing, there will always be a threat because any team that is currently plying their trade in the Premier League has earned the right to be there.
He said: “We expect it to be a tough game. We know them from last season. They were a side that did exceptionally well based on not just a hard-working ethic but they showed qualities last year of being mentally and technically competitive and I would fully expect them to show that throughout this season as well.
“We are very conscious of the fact that whoever we play we need to give due respect to.
“Can we do it against other styles of play? I think yes we can – we proved that last season.
“The pressure to play in some of the big games is probably not as much on ourselves to perform in those games.
“We’re well aware of the fact that we have to pick enough points up against sides who are probably coupled with us in terms of stature.
“Those are the sorts of games we need to pick up a lot of points from because history would bear that out as being an important factor in teams’ seasons.
“It’s always interesting how people bill games. For us it’s our next opportunity to win three points.
“It would be foolish to think it would be an easy game and I imagine they’d be looking at it in a similar vein.”
Having faced each other on a number of occasions in recent years, the Foxes manager is familiar with the Clarets’ ability after both sides showed a good level of consistency last season.
While City stormed to the Championship title, Sean Dyche’s men finished eight points clear of third-placed Derby County – an impressive points tally which saw them return to the Premier League after a four-year absence.
And with the international break closing in, Pearson wants his side to disperse with their respective nations on a high following their recent defeat to Crystal Palace last time out.
He continued: “Every game is [dangerous], they’ve got some good players but they’ll be looking at it in a similar fashion to us and that will be about getting your own performance right.
“When you consider we were the two sides that were the most consistent throughout the season, added to that Derby’s run from just before Christmas, last year was phenomenal.
“I think over the course of the season both ourselves and Burnley were I think in a lot of people’s eyes the most consistent.
“I don’t know whether people bill us differently or not. I think the most important thing is that there will be clear goals that we need to achieve with the players that we have this year.
“I feel we’ve got a pretty strong squad this season with a few options and the big thing from our point of view is to get our own performance right. If we do that we can cause them problems.
“The game here last season was a draw and they scored first – it was a very tight game so who’s to know how it will go.
“Ultimately for us we want to get back to winning ways, we want to get back to applying pressure on other teams around us and that’s what it’s about.
“We’re at home and we want to play as well as we can and certainly it would be nice to go into the international break on the back of a home win and that’s what we’ll be trying to do.”
