U18s Reaction: Rudkin Pleased With Comeback

Leicester City Academy director Jon Rudkin praised the spirit of his side after they beat Reading 2-1 in the Barclays U18 Premier League on Saturday.

The Foxes went into the break 1-0 down but goals from Matty Miles and Elliot Moore sealed three points for the young Foxes.
The result sees City extend their unbeaten run to four games on the road, making it three victories in four games for Leicester.
Speaking after the win, Rudkin said: “Under heavy rainfall it was a real good start by ourselves. We began well and had reasonably good possession.
“Neither side really over-worked the goalkeeper in the first half and I think that would have been the main talking point at half time for both teams.
“It was a test for us to try and get the momentum back and to get back on to an even keel and we managed to do so.
“We were awarded a free kick midway through the second half wide on the left hand side – that was executed really well through Matty Miles. He bent it in on the right foot and as players ran across it, it bounced through.
“We got back level-pegging and the game could have really swung either way as it started to come to the end of the half.
“The conditions were wet and we managed to then get the second goal.
“It was a goal late on which we managed to secure the win with. It was a very physical, tough game and Reading are a good side.
“It was certainly a very difficult encounter and there wasn’t a great deal between the two sides.
“I’m pleased with the result but we know we can possibly play a little bit more as well – a positive morning.”
With several Under-18s called up to their respective nations for the international break, it will be a good chance for other members of the squad to step up to the mark.
Rudkin continued: “The boys have put in a nice momentum together as we see some of them disappear for international duty.
“That’s a positive thing but also we know that we have a number of good players ready to come in to the side.
“It’s a good opportunity for them again as part of their development.
“It’s pleasing to come from behind in games. It can be a positive but we don’t want to find ourselves in situation on too many occasions.”
