Vardy Hoping For More Goals

City striker Jamie Vardy insists there’s ‘more to come’ after scoring the goal that sealed a sensational three points on the opening weekend of the Sky Bet Championship season at Middlesbrough.

After going 1-0 down in the first half, goals from Danny Drinkwater and Vardy secured the 2-1 win for Nigel Pearson’s side in a second half that saw The Foxes brimming with confidence.

The 26-year-old striker scored five times in his debut season for Leicester last term following a move from non-league Fleetwood Town – a switch which saw the Sheffield-born hitman jump three divisions.

He revealed after the match that netting the winner was a case of determination reaping rewards, adding: “I’ve been working hard during the off season and even doing my own bit before we came back for pre-season and obviously the hard work is paying off, but I’m just glad to get three points.

“Hopefully there will be more to come. It was a massive learning curve for me last year having come from the Conference.

“But hopefully now with me having that under my belt then I can just kick on and keep them goals coming.”

Next up Pearson’s men travel to League 2 side Wycombe Wanderers in the first round of the Capital One Cup on Tuesday night, before kicking-off their King Power Stadium campaign with a tussle against Leeds United on Sunday.

But Vardy was keen not to get too carried away with City’s good start, preferring to focus on the hard work and resilience that brought about the result at Middlesbrough on Saturday.

He said: “It’s always good to get the three points on the board early doors – I know they say when it comes to Christmas time everything adds up quickly, but it’s a marathon and if we keep adding them points up then we’ll be there at the end of the season.

“Obviously going a goal down at Middlesbrough it’s hard to get back in to the game and we didn’t play to the best of our ability. But as you have seen in the second half we’ve all dug in, upped the work rate and come through it.

“It was great from the fans too, and when they get us all going it’s like having a 12th man.”
