King Hails Winning Mentality

Leicester City star Andy King says excitement is building for the new Barclays Premier League campaign after getting a first 90 minutes under his belt in Monday’s pre-season friendly with MK Dons.
The 25-year-old Academy graduate helped the Foxes secure , and maintain their unbeaten pre-season record in the process – thanks to strikes from the razor sharp David Nugent and .
Rotherham United are next up for City on Tuesday night in their penultimate pre-season game, with a home clash against Werder Bremen at the weekend the final warm-up match before the action gets underway for real against Everton at King Power Stadium on 16 August.
And after coming through the full game at Stadium MK without any problems and with another win, King senses a confidence about the side going into the curtain raiser against the Toffees.
Speaking exclusively to LCFC.com, King said: “It was good to get the first 90 minutes in and good to get the win as well. It’s important that you do get that winning momentum, even though it is pre-season. You want to go into the season with confidence, and that confidence comes with winning games and we’ve done that with a comfortable 2-0 win in the end.
“The fitness is good. We’ve played a couple of hour-long games and 45 minutes too, and been training hard, but it’s never quite the same as a match and you can see in the game that we finished strongly, and that’s all that matters.
“You want to try and get the winning mentality coming through and get the results in pre-season so it builds confidence going into the season. If you go into the season having not won any games then confidence will be low. We’ve not lost yet so our confidence is high and we want to try to keep that going in the next couple of games as well.”
Reaching the Premier League has been a long journey for King and Leicester City, and along with Conrad Logan, he is the only survivor from Nigel Pearson’s squad that won the League 1 title back in the 2008/09 season.
And with King set to become the first player ever to represent the Club in three different divisions when he makes his Premier League bow in 2014/15, it is little wonder that the anticipation is so high on the eve of the new season.
He added: “I’m massively excited. I’ve waited so long to have the chance to play in the Premier League with this Club, so it’s something I’m desperately looking forward to and I just want it to come around now.
“I’m really looking forward to it. I just want to try and play as much as possible during the season. It’s something I’ve wanted since I was young so I’m just going to look forward to it now.”
