King Living The Premier League Dream

Fresh from his first outings as a Barclays Premier League player, Leicester City midfielder Andy King has taken a look back on the Club’s remarkable rise from League 1 to the top-flight.

The Welsh international is the only current Fox who played in the Nigel Pearson team that breezed the third tier of English football in 2008/09.
King was always confident that City would gain promotion to England’s top-flight and that fact only hit home in pre-season after storming to the Sky Bet Championship title last year.
Speaking exclusively to Foxes Player, the Academy graduate said: “From when I made my debut it’s been a long time but a lot has happened in that time – a lot of good memories.
“We’ve had two good promotions and two heartbreaks for the play-offs so it’s not like we’ve been finishing 10th and 12th and 15th in the season and just gone up in the end.
“We’ve had something to work towards in the majority of the season which I’ve been playing in which is brilliant for the players and brilliant for the fans.
“It’s been exciting season upon season and to finally make it now and to be playing in the Premier League is brilliant not just for me but for the whole squad.
“We always thought the setup around the Club is a Premier League setup especially since the new owners have come in.
“They’ve absolutely brilliant in terms of what they’ve put into the Club – the support that they give the manager and the resources that they give not only him, even the training ground, has been brilliant.”
After putting in three impressive shifts for Nigel Pearson’s men against Everton, Chelsea and Arsenal, King admitted that he will have to continue his hard work to cement his place in the team.
He continued: “It gets stronger every year and now we’re in the Premier League – the budget to sign players is bigger, the pool from the Club’s point of view to in order to get the top players is bigger as well.
“There’s going to be hundreds and thousands of players who want to come and play for this football club, none more so than myself.
“I’ve just got to make sure that I’m working hard and playing well in order to try and keep my place in that team.”
Joining the Club from Chelsea at the age of 15, King has progressed through the ranks, making his Premier League debut against Everton in the opening game of the season.
Following in his footsteps were England Under-21 international Liam Moore and winger Jeffrey Schlupp, who made their first appearance in the top-flight in the same game.
King knows that the side must strike a good balance between youth and experience and believes that with these talented players coming through the Academy, the Foxes can create a formula for success.
He added: “Liam and Jeff from the Academy have done brilliantly and they’re showing that again in the Premier League as well this season.
“I’ve known those boys nearly 10 years now – the time goes so quick and to see them develop and come on the way they have and to be top, top players now is brilliant.
“We’ve got a lot of good young players in that squad but we’ve also got experience and it’s important that the experienced players help the young ones, no more so than this season where there’s going to be ups and downs.
“It’s a tough league, probably the toughest in the world, but we know we’re equipped enough with the squad.
“If we play well and all stick together we can definitely be successful this year.”
