Defeat Frustrates Pearson

City boss Nigel Pearson couldn’t hide his disappointment after his side fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat at the hands of Doncaster Rovers in the Sky Bet Championship on Saturday afternoon.

The Foxes remain in third position in the table, but the manager felt his side deserved at least a point from the Keepmoat Stadium in a match they were chasing from the 17th minute when Kasper Schmeichel turned Mark Duffy’s corner into his own net.

Danny Drinkwater then struck the post with a great effort and Ross Turnbull denied both Anthony Knockaert and Paul Konchesky, but Doncaster held on for the victory as City went into the international break with just their second defeat of the campaign.

The manager was honest in his assessment of the performance afterwards, telling Foxes Player: “I think the reality is that we have to look at the game and say we’ve probably not played with the quality we have had at times.

“We’ve not created enough opportunities today. Our best spell was 20 minutes before half time in which we passed the ball well and moved well.

“We looked as though we didn’t have enough ideas at times. We were a little bit laboured and our quality let us down when we were securing the ball – things broke down a little too easily.

“In all honesty we should be coming away with a point today, but it’s a shame that an individual error has changed the course of the game.

“Did they create much? No. I think we defended pretty well and dealt with their threats pretty efficiently, so it makes it frustrating for us to talk about us coming away with no points, especially when you look at our 3,300 away fans behind the goal.

“The goal affected our rhythm somewhat, but like I say we finished the first half in a positive way and looked dangerous. We made the ‘keeper work on a couple of occasions and didn’t reproduce that in the second half. For whatever reason, some of our more creative players today didn’t really create the opportunities that they have been doing.

“Although I’m disappointed, what I do recognise is that we’ve had some very good performances and the players that have got us into good positions this season will get us there again.”
