Pearson Upbeat About Upson Return

City manager Nigel Pearson has revealed that defender Matthew Upson could be available for first team selection before Christmas.

Upson has not featured for the Foxes since his summer move from Brighton & Hove Albion, having required surgery on a foot injury.
But the experienced former England international has progressed well with his rehabilitation and could be set to bolster City’s defensive options before the busy festive period.
Pearson hopes that Upson, 35, will be ready to start building match fitness, possibly with the Club’s Development Squad, in a matter of weeks.
“He is doing very well, very well and hopefully he will play some part in a competitive game in the next month,” Pearson said.
“That means he may be in contention for the first team before Christmas, which would be fantastic for us.
“He has a wealth of experience and know-how. I am looking forward to having him available.”
Upson’s experience will be of enormous value to the City squad during the second half in the season. Capped 22 times by England, the former Arsenal and West Ham United defender has made nearly 450 career appearances – 284 of them in the Premier League.
He was Brighton’s Player of the Year last season during his second campaign with the Seagulls, whom he helped to consecutive top-six finishes in the Championship prior to his switch to King Power Stadium.
