Pearson: We Had Our Chances

Leicester City Manager Nigel Pearson was disappointed not to come away with all three points after a 1-1 npower Championship draw with Brighton and Hove Albion.

An excellent City display was rewarded when Matty James gave The Foxes a well-deserved second half lead with 72 minutes on the clock after a Liam Moore throw, but with just three minutes left, Seagulls sub Kazenga Lua Lua made it 1-1 with a low finish from the edge of the box.

However despite the late goal at the AMEX Stadium, it was a much-improved display from Leicester, who made five changes to the side that lost 2-0 at Barnsley last time out.

After the match, Pearson said: “I think they (Brighton) will be more satisfied with the draw than we are as we had our chances.

“Unfortunately we’re out of the habit of winning games, and that’s the thing that’s holding us back at the moment. It was a much better performance than the one against Barnsley, but we need to get back to winning ways.”

With Jeff Schlupp, David Nugent and Ben Marshall leading the line for City, Pearson’s men created opportunities in front of 2,000 travelling Blue Army, but despite Andy King’s effort being tipped onto the crossbar in the first half, they weren’t’ able to find that clinical finish until James’s strike.

However the desire and creativity displayed will give the boss plenty of reasons for encouragement going into Friday night’s King Power Stadium fixture against Birmingham City.

The manager added: “I think when you go the number of games that we've gone without winning games, then it puts added pressure on.

“It was an honest performance with discipline and we created a number of chances. We just have to take the positives from the game going into the next match.

“[Creating chances], that’s the problem for us recently, although we certainly created a number of very good scoring opportunities, but we didn’t take them.

“All I’m concerned about is us as a group returning to winning ways. We’ve got to put our own house in order and we’re working hard to do that, and I think we were unfortunate not to win the game.”
