Standards High At Talent Centres

The Leicester City in the Community project hosted its most recent Talent ID camp at the end of August, as it continues to serve as a productive recruitment channel for the Leicester City Academy.

Bringing together a select group of talented youngsters aged 7-9, identified by coaches at Leicester City in the Community courses, the sessions regularly see participants progress to join the Club’s Youth Development Centres – the first step on the LCFC Academy pathway.

A total of 24 players recently scouted at LCFC in the Community courses were invited to August’s Talent ID camp, highlighting the wealth of ability that continues to flourish at grass roots level within the City.

Football in the Community and Academy Coaches Matt Willcock, Adam Martin, Leroy Moore and Garry Fox took charge of the recent sessions and were impressed with the standard of the players involved.

Coach Matt Willcock said: “We have seen during this summer’s community courses that there remains a great amount of young talent playing football in Leicester and the Talent ID sessions give us an opportunity to take a closer look at some of those that have caught the eye.

“I would like to thank all the children that attended – they all showed a fantastic attitude to the day and the standard was extremely high.

“We hope to see many more youngsters at LCFC Community Courses over the course of the season and look forward to unearthing more talent throughout the county.”

Academy Director Jon Rudkin said: “The Academy’s ties with the Leicestershire community are extremely important and through the work of the LCFC in the Community programme, we are able to strengthen that bond considerably.

“Several players initially identified from community courses have gone on to represent the Leicester City Academy and the Talent ID programme will give many others the chance to follow the same path.”

LCFC in the Community will also be setting up Satellite Centres around Leicestershire in the coming weeks, providing further opportunities for young players to harness their skills under the guidance of skilled, progressive LCFC coaches.

Set to be established in Blaby, Birstall, Hinckley and Coalville, the Satellite Centres will provide further scope for players to be identified for the Club’s Youth Development Centres.
