Pearson: We Had Our Intensity Back

Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson watched his side make a welcome return to form at Bolton Wanderers, despite not picking up the three points they came for.

Responding to their first back-to-back defeats since August, the Foxes were outstanding at the Reebok Stadium and, but for a terrific performance from Trotters ‘keeper Adam Bogdan, might have taken all three points as opposed to the one their goalless draw yielded.

And despite picking up unwanted injuries to Paul Konchesky and new boy Michael Keane, the City boss was extremely pleased with his side’s display.

“There were things that went against us, but I thought the performance from the players was fantastic tonight, I’m really pleased for them and with them,” Pearson said post-match.

“That sort of performance is what we’ve been about this season, we played with an intensity that took us to the top at one stage and will do that again if we play with that sort of drive.

“It’s the first time we’ve not scored this season, but we kept a clean sheet and we tried to win it right the way to the end.

“The only negatives out of tonight are potentially losing two players to injury, but all in all it was a very good performance.”

On another night, the Foxes could have been home and hosed by half-time, but Bogdan frustrated them with outstanding saves from David Nugent, Danny Drinkwater and the excellent Martyn Waghorn.

And even during a more even second period that required City to dig in, Bogdan again came to the hosts’ rescue, keeping out Waghorn and Anthony Knockaert late on.

“At times this year, we haven’t taken our chances because we have squandered them and not worked the opposition goalkeeper enough,” Pearson said.

“Today, he’s had to work really hard to keep a clean sheet. I don’t know what the stats are, but I think we were by far the better side. Yes they are going to be dangerous from set-plays because of the experienced players they’ve got, but our players coped with that well.

“Our back five did very well, the midfield were back to the type of performance I would expect of them and I don’t think there was really a weak performance in there. It was very, very good.”
