Pre-Season Training Begins For City

A sun soaked Belvoir Drive Training Centre was the venue as Leicester City’s stars made their return to pre-season training on Monday morning.
Under the watchful eye of Nigel Pearson and his team of staff, the players got their pre-season preparations underway with back-to-back sessions on the brand new surfaces at the Training Ground.

The squad first emerged from their end of season break last week for a gruelling day of testing, but with the hard work now well underway, the lads were in fine form as they took to the pitches together for the first time this season.

First up for the squad was some tough running work with the Club’s Sports Science staff in the dome, with the players’ fitness levels impressing on the back of their excellent testing day results. Having once again proved their fitness, they moved onto some ball work after lunch and immediately picked up where they left off last term.

Summer signings Marc Albrighton, Matthew Upson and Ben Hamer were all and hand to meet their new team-mates and get to grips with things ahead of a first Premier League campaign for City in a decade.

The only absentees were those who have been given an extended break due to international commitments. Those included the likes of skipper Wes Morgan, Kasper Schmeichel and Riyad Mahrez, who enjoyed a World Cup campaign with Algeria over in Brazil until they were eliminated by Germany in the second round.

After a full week of training, the squad will head out to Austria for a warm weather training camp on Sunday 13 July, before returning to England to take on Ilkeston FC in their opening pre-season friendly on 22 July.

The pre-season fixture schedule then takes the players to Thailand for an intriguing friendly against opening day opponents Everton, before returning to England for away fixtures against Walsall, Preston North End, Milton Keynes Dons, Rotherham United, and finally a King Power Stadium clash against Werder Bremen.
