Hard Work Vital For Pearson

Manager Nigel Pearson has highlighted hard work as key to maintaining City’s winning form as he prepares his side to take on Peterborough in the npower Championship.

A run of five consecutive victories in the league has seen Pearson’s Foxes climb to second in the table, leading a clutch of teams fighting it out for automatic promotion behind leaders Cardiff City.

But for Pearson it’s all about maintaining the same approach and work ethic at London Road that has served them so well throughout the season.

“We’re in form – there is no doubt about that, but we have got good players that are very honest, and that foundation of hard work is the basis for any team.” Said Pearson.

“It’s [down to] hard work right the way through the season. We’re acquitting ourselves the same way now as we were at the start of the season.

“We will treat it like any other game - we go into it playing pretty well, we just have to make sure that we do what we need to do to win the game.

“It won’t be easy, it’s quite a difficult pitch [at London Road], it’s a local derby and they’re scrapping for points, so we’ve got to go there to do a job, be as professional as we can be and look to pick three points up.

“Peterborough have a system of play that they stick to regardless of the game.

“They try and play expansive football and I know they’ll be working hard at getting a game plan that will cause us problems.

“I know Darren Ferguson works exceptionally hard to try and do that so we have got to be aware of what they offer, but again for us it’s about our own performance being right.”

With the business end of the season fast approaching, the manager is keen to keep the squad’s attentions fixed on achieving the ultimate goal of promotion to the top-flight, and Saturday’s game will be no different.

He added: “I don’t want them to be content, because contentment can breed complacency, and I want them to be focused on what they have to do, which is to be a success.

“Contentment comes at the end of the season if you achieve your goals, and we’re a long way from that.

“We’re just trying to keep our focus on the goals of the season, and that is to be up there fighting for promotion.

“It’s miles different to last season. This time last year I’d not been back in this job for long and the squad is completely different now.

“I’m pleased about that and we’ve got a team now which works hard in every game that we play, and that’s very important.”
