Beaglehole: Season Starts Now

City’s Development Squad made an emphatic return to action on Monday night as they lifted the Westerby Cup Winners’ Cup with a 4-2 win over Blaby and Whetstone Athletic.
The Foxes surged in a 3-0 lead at the break thanks to goals from Callum Elder, Kris Scott and Jack Barmby, and despite Stu Morrell and Aaron Preston scoring for Athletic, Jak McCourt’s late free kick earned City the trophy.

It was the ideal preparation for Monday night’s Barclays U21 Premier League clash against Fulham at King Power Stadium, and after a break in fixtures due to postponements, Beaglehole was delighted with the efforts of his side.

Speaking to Foxes Player at full-time he said: “It’s great to win a trophy of any sort, but what pleased me most was the way we went about the game, particularly in the first half.

“The lads were excellent and played like we did last year. In the first half it was as good as I’ve seen us play, there was a real tempo to that and we scored three excellent goals.

“It was an excellent first half, but the second half wasn’t the same. It was Callum Elder’s return from injury too and he was always going to get 45 minutes. We needed to get other players on so we could training on Tuesday. We weren’t as good after the break, but the job had been done in the first half.

“We feel like the season starts now actually. We felt as if we were still in pre-season because we’ve had a gap, and we wanted to start right tonight. The season really does start now for us because we’ve now got a game every week and everybody was glad to get back playing again.”
