Moore ‘Buzzing’ With Under-21 Call-Up

City defender Liam Moore says he is determined to make the most of his international opportunity, after winning his first England Under-21 call-up.

The 19-year-old Foxes Academy graduate is one of five new faces named in Stuart Pearce’s 21-man squad, which will take on Northern Ireland in a friendly at Blackpool’s Bloomfield Road on Tuesday.

The call-up is a reward for an excellent start to the season for Liam, who has made 12 first team appearances and produced some outstanding displays both at centre-half and at right-back.

And while thrilled to get the call confirming his inclusion, the Barrow youngster, who was previously capped at Under-17 level, is hoping for an opportunity to maximise the experience.

“I was a little bit shocked when the call came, but I’m absolutely buzzing with it,” Liam told lcfc.com.

“I don’t imagine it will be a long training camp because there is only one game to play, but it’s up to me now to make the most of it and try my best to impress and stay in and around it.

“Playing a lot of games so early in the season obviously has obviously helped. The manager showed a lot of faith to put me in the team at the start of the season when we had a few injuries, which meant I had a good run in the team and was able to perform without any pressure.

“I’m grateful to him and to all of the lads for their help and hopefully I can take something from the experience that will help me develop further at Leicester.”

Having won their last five games, the Young Lions will be aiming to match their best sequence of results since 1991 with victory on Tuesday night.

And head coach Pearce admits that spots in his squad for next summer’s UEFA Under-21 Championships in Israel are still very much up for grabs.

“This will be an opportunity for a number of younger players, and those who have not had much game time, to impress and put themselves in contention for a place on the plane next summer,” Pearce told TheFA.com.

“There are young players within this group who will be able to go again with the Under-21s for the 2015 campaign, so every chance to play for England will give them experience they will no doubt call upon in the future.”
