Pearson: We've Not Been Ruthless Enough

City manager Nigel Pearson has stressed the importance of being ruthless after City were held at home to Barnsley on Saturday.

Despite only drawing level in the 90th minute through Jamie Vardy, the Foxes had several late opportunities to bag all three points, but failed to do so.

“We have not been ruthless enough really,” said Pearson after the game.

“We had plenty of chances and haven’t played as well as we can do.

“In a game in which I don’t think they were in we have gifted them two goals and had to fight to get anything out of it.

“We could have had a penalty at the end for handball but I don’t blame the officials for us not getting three points today.

A fantastic start to the game from City was cut short when a rare mistake from Kasper Schmeichel let Barnsley back into the game; something which Pearson felt initiated City’s first half slump.

Pearson said: “It was a rare mistake from Kasper but it happens.

“It was unfortunate because we started the game so well and were in total control, and then we have been the architects of our own downfall in the first half.”

Barnsley’s second goal was a superb overhead kick scored by Reuben Noble-Lazarus which put them into the lead heading into half time - Pearson praised the style of the goal but still felt that it could have been avoided if they hadn’t conceded the first goal through a defensive mistake.

“It was a barnstorming finish and even throughout the second half they weren’t really a threat and it is probably as dominant as you can be without really winning a game.

“We started the game very well but gave them two goals out of nothing.

“But we got something out of the game, which is a positive, but we should win those sorts of games.

“When you have a side that get as many men behind the ball as they do it gives them something to hang on to.”
