Stevenage Loan For Stopper Smith

Young City goalkeeper Adam Smith has joined Sky Bet League 1 side Stevenage on loan.
The 21-year-old custodian joins the Boro for a period of one month to aid his on-going development as one of the Foxes’ promising young professionals.

Adam, who joined City as a second-year scholar from Middlesbrough in 2011 and signed his first professional contract that summer, has been a mainstay in Steve Beaglehole’s successful Under-21 Development Squad in recent seasons, while also benefiting from loan moves at various levels.

After a brief loan spell with Chesterfield in the autumn of 2011, he spent two months with Lincoln City in early 2012, before spending much of the 2012/13 season with non-league Nuneaton, for whom he made seven appearances.

Adam joins Stevenage with Graham Westley’s side currently rooted to the foot of the Sky Bet League 1 table, five points from safety. Saturday sees them make a crucial trip to fellow strugglers Oldham, a game for which Adam will be available if selected.

A busy coming month including eight games also sees the Boro face the likes of Swindon Town, Notts County, Crewe Alexandra and Wolves, as well as hosting an intriguing FA Cup with Budweiser Fourth Round tie against Premier League Everton on 25 January.
