#BirchRun2014 On Twitter

Leicester City Ambassador Alan Birchenall has finally joined the Twitter ranks as he makes his preparations for his 34th annual end of season run in aid of the LCFC Foxes Foundation.

Ahead of the Sky Bet Championship visit of Doncaster Rovers on Saturday 3 May, the Foxes legend will embark on his annual 90-minute run around the King Power Stadium pitch, raising money for the Foundation’s five 2013/14 charity partners – Breast Cancer Care, The Laura Centre, Macmillan Cancer Support, Samaritans Leicester and the LCFC Defibrillator Appeal.

And to keep Foxes fans abreast of everything concerned with #BirchRun2014, the man himself has been providing some typically entertaining updates through his new Twitter page.

Over 1,500 Foxes fans have already followed the Birch, but it’s taking a bit of time for the veteran fundraiser to get the hang of ‘all this Twitter dooberries’, so make sure you follow now to give him some encouragement!

A time-honoured tradition for the City faithful, Birch’s annual run has helped the former Foxes forward generate over £1million for worthy causes during the last four decades – an achievement that has made Birch one of Leicester’s favourite sons.

Birch got Nigel Pearson and the City squad together at Belvoir Drive recently to reveal the #BirchRun2014 t-shirts, which this year have been sponsored by Mark English at MJE Contracts.

And as he ties up his running shoes for run No.34, the 68-year-old fans’ favourite is counting on the support of the Blue Army to roar him over the line.

Birch said: “The generosity of the Leicester City fans has been the driving force behind the run for many years and I’m sure they’ll be out in force once again to support five fantastic causes.

“It’s a big challenge, as it is every year, and I’m probably looking forward to it and dreading it in equal measure! But it’s something that’s unique to our Football Club and has helped countless less fortunate people over the years, so I’m extremely proud to be part of it.

“As always, we’ll hope to have some familiar faces joining us for the run, including both sets of players for a lap before the game. If the lads keep up their current form, it could be part of a truly memorable day.”

Supporters interested in being part of Birch’s Run in 2014 should contact the Foundation by email on for all the information they need.

A minimum amount of £500 must be raised to take part in the run and places will be strictly limited. Collection volunteers will also be welcomed. Those interested should email l.
