Case Study: Junior Foxes Education Partnership

Foxes Lotto gives fans the chance to win life-changing jackpots whilst raising vital funds for the LCFC Community Trust, the Club's charitable arm, which utilises the power of football to deliver inspiring projects that link the Club to communities across Leicestershire and beyond. Many of the Trust's projects meet the needs of young people by engaging with them across a range of themed delivery in education, health, social inclusion and sports participation.

Last year the LCFC Community Trust, in partnership with the Football League, launched the Junior Foxes Education Programme. The project involves the mentoring of Year 10 and 11 students to deliver theory and practical-based learning sessions within feeder schools in Leicestershire. Targeting KS2 Year 5 and 6 students, the project acts as an engagement tool to promote the importance of living a healthy lifestyle, teamwork, physical and social confidence, and respect.

As part of the project, 15 gifted and talented students from three secondary schools in Leicester (Babington Community College, Crownhills Community College and Leicester City College) were selected to become programme mentors and attend a six-week-long course, which prepared them to deliver a Healthy Lifestyle programme to younger children in a primary school setting.

The education partnership has so far proven to be extremely successful. In addition to empowering the students to act as positive role models in their community, those involved have had the opportunity to acquire qualifications such as the BTEC Level 3 in Sport and the FA Junior Leadership Award. The programme benefits the younger students too, and having a role model other than a teacher or parent during the difficult transition from primary to secondary school has had a profound impact on many.

Case Study: The Foxes Education Experience

Designed for students who need a little extra support to reach their full learning potential, The Foxes Education Experience provides interactive activities designed to engage and inspire young people, focusing on fundamentals such as literacy and numeracy.

The Community Trust has piloted the programme in partnership with Babington Community College, which saw 30 of its Year 8 and Year 9 students take part in an intensive ‘Literacy and Numeracy Catch-Up’ week.

The most popular session focused on ‘History & Memorabilia’, which brought to life old newspaper articles, programmes and facts about the Club’s history.  This experience was then reflected in sessions provided by Babington Community College teachers which continued the link between the history of Leicester City Football Club and the overarching theme of the week, literacy and numeracy.

Students who took part in the pilot also had the opportunity to visit the Club’s Training Ground at Belvoir Drive, where they received an insight into the lives of a professional footballer by viewing training sessions, participating in Q&A sessions, and enjoying a tour of the Training Ground. This experience was then consolidated by the opportunity to attend a first-team match, which was an excellent practical demonstration of the effort and dedication that a professional footballer has to invest in order to excel.
