Stars Reflect On Soccer Sunday

Leicester City legend Matt Elliott led the praise for the support shown by players and fans at Sunday’s Sellebrity Soccer match.

King Power Stadium played host to another LCFC Foxes Foundation Soccer Sunday with celebrities and former City players coming together to raise money for charity.
A Jack Whitehall XI drew 5-5 with Danny Dyer’s XI in a match which saw thousands of people turn out to show their support, with all profits from the match going to Foxes Foundation’s chosen charities.
“It was alright at the start but it got progressively worse and I ended up with a little bit of old man syndrome,” said Elliott.
“My calf has popped a little bit so I had to take an early bath I’m afraid.
“It’s been great fun. It’s a good occasion and there’s some good play out there as well – some good quality goals which might surprise a few people.
“It’s a good day and there’s been a good turn out from the players and the supporters so hopefully everyone’s enjoyed themselves.”
Rapper MC Harvey scored a hat trick against Elliott’s side which included for his third goal.
Admitting it was an impressive effort, Elliott said: “Me and Walshy were both tempted to clean him [MC Harvey] out but we thought it’s a friendly game, we’d better not!
“Unsurprisingly, he got the better of us on pace and he’s finished it well – that one was down to me and Walshy I’m afraid.
“But the fans never fail to deliver – it’s great to see them come out.”
And actor Stephen Graham, best known for his role as Al Capone in Boardwalk Empire, expressed his delight at playing at City’s hunting ground.
He said: “It’s a child hood dream – playing at a brilliant like this with loads of people turning out and showing support for a great cause – it’s fantastic.
“It was hard graft, very hard graft, but it was brilliant.
“Everyone gave it everything and they’re all great lads that have come for a great cause.”
Meanwhile, MC Harvey praised the efforts of everyone involved in what turned out to be a fantastic day to be part of.
“It’s amazing, just look at the stadium,” he said. “A great day and an amazing turn out.
“It’s brilliant to score any type of goal, especially at this stadium.
“It’s football – it’s my first love – I love it more than music. It’s been a great day out, a great pitch and great atmosphere.
“It’s beautiful and the main thing is it’s for a good cause and that’s what’s important.”
Soccer AM’s Tubes played the majority of the match at centre-half and admitted that he loved being a part of Soccer Sunday.
He said: “It was good. Me and Ben Hardy at the back did alright. We conceded five goals so obviously not that great but I did alright!
“I loved it – it’s for a good charity and there’s been great support from all the fans that have turned up.
“It’s amazing – I love the Leicester fans and the stadium is amazing. It’s been a great day.”
And Leicester fan and 2013 X Factor winner Sam Bailey netted her dream goal in front of a City crowd despite giving birth just a month ago.
“I wanted to score the winner,” she said. “I was goal hanging for a lot of it but it was all good fun today.
"I was messing about and hiding where I could – I thought if I stand upfront and magically get the ball and as luck would have it I did.
“I’m not sure whether they kind of let it in because they know how much I wanted to score!
“I got my goal but I’m aching for it. I only had a baby four weeks ago.
“I think I might have to speak to Nigel to see if he can get me a game against a really, really bad club!”
But the fundraising doesn’t stop there as a selection of signed match-worn shirts by the likes of actors Danny Dyer and Stephen Graham, TOWIE’s Dan Osbourne and City legends Muzzy Izzet and Matt Elliott, will all be auctioned off on the in the coming days.
