Schmeichel Helps Table-Topping Denmark To Victory

Kasper Schmeichel’s Denmark maintained their spot at the top of their Euro 2016 Qualifying Group I on Friday night with an impressive 3-1 victory in Serbia.
The Leicester City goalkeeper played the full 90 minutes for his nation in front of an empty stadium in Belgrade, which was as a result of the crowd trouble that had marred Serbia’s previous game against Albania.

It had initially looked to be a difficult night in store for the Danes, who went behind after just four minutes to a strike from CSKA Moscow man Zoran Tosic, but three second half goals turned things around.

Wolfsburg striker Nicklas Bendtner netted the first of those shortly after the hour mark, before Lille defender Simon Kjaer got their noses in front a minute later. It was then left to Bendtner to put the result beyond doubt with his second of the match with five minutes remaining.

As a result, the Danes stayed above Portugal, Albania, Serbia and Armenia to top the group with seven points from four games. Serbia sit second bottom after having the three points from their forfeit-win over Albania last time out removed.

Schmeichel’s Denmark play their final international of the year on Tuesday night with a tricky friendly against Romania in Bucharest, where he could win his 10th cap.
Elsewhere, City's Under-18 captain Ben Chilwell started for England Under-19s at Rotherham United's New York Stadium, as Sean O'Driscoll's side beat Italy 3-0.
Two goals from Isaiah Brown and a third from Chelsea team-mate Ruben Loftus-Cheek handed England a comfortable win, with all three goals coming before Ben's replacement on 72 minutes.
