Pearson: We Showed Courage

City boss Nigel Pearson was delighted to see his side make a return to winnings ways with a stunning 3-2 npower Championship win over Bolton that lifts them back into the play-off places.

Chris Wood and Lloyd Dyer put City 2-1 up following David Ngog’s early penalty for Bolton, and after Darren Pratley made it 2-2, Jeff Schlupp popped up with a sensational volley to seal the victory.

It was a wonderful King Power Stadium atmosphere and a performance to match from The Foxes, who showed great character to recover from going behind early on to go 3-2 ahead and raise the roof in the process.

“It’s all about the result,” Pearson told Foxes Player after the match. “I think after the run that we’ve had it was always going to be a little bit tense towards the end but the players showed an awful lot of character.

“We had to deal with going behind to a penalty after two minutes, but it was important that we got the three points. We showed a lot of courage and also we showed a lot of ability.

“There was a lot riding on this result but I’m pleased with how the players applied themselves because it’s never easy for the them to come through a situation like this. It would have been easy for them to think ‘here we go again’ after the opening goal, but I don’t think they did.

“I think we’ve been very unlucky in the last two games not to have won both prior to this.

“If you look at the game against Millwall, we conceded a late goal when we were down to ten men for almost the entirety of the game. It’s not as if the players have been shirking the responsibility.

“They’ve been working very hard and here against Bolton we’ve not had the breaks, but we’ve made things happen.

“To come through it you’ve got to work hard collectively, and we’ve reaped the benefits of that.”
