U18s Report: Spurs 3 City 0

Leicester City Under-18s were beaten by title-chasing Tottenham Hotspur in a wind-hit Barclays U18 Premier League encounter on Hotspur Way last Saturday afternoon.
The Foxes had secured an impressive 3-1 victory in the reverse fixture earlier this season and started equally brightly against a strong Spurs outfit – Simonas Stankevicius and Ben Chilwell both striking the woodwork in quick succession.

However Spurs eventually got their noses in front just five minutes before the break. From the right flank, Nathan Oduwa tried to take on Chilwell and was fortunate to see the ball bobble past the City defender, allowing him to pick out Daniel Akindayini in the middle for a smart finish past Liam Sharpe.

Trevor Peake’s side were positive in their play and could count themselves unfortunate to be behind, but less than a minute after the half time break Spurs struck clinically to double their lead.

Oduwa again worked himself into space on the flank before playing a pinpoint pass for striker Akindayini to pull the trigger on an easy finish inside the area.

City rallied though, and did manage to create a number of opportunities after the hour mark.

First Lithuania international Stankevicius was put clean through following a great move from front-to-back, but he couldn’t keep his finish below Harry Voss’ crossbar.

The lively Danny Rowe then spotted a gap only to see a superb Connor Ogilvie block deny him what looked to be a certain goal as Spurs scrambled the loose ball to safety.

Despite City’s best efforts, the home side finally put the result beyond doubt with a third goal late into the match. Defender Ogilvie made his way forward, cut the ball back onto his weaker right foot and shot confidently into the corner, making certain of the three points.

Next up for Trevor Peake’s side is a home clash with West Brom on Saturday 22 February.
