Shakey: An Accomplished Performance

Assistant manager Craig Shakespeare was pleased to see City make the most of their opportunities, as Ipswich Town were put to the sword at King Power Stadium.

The Foxes were in sparkling form against the struggling Tractor Boys, hitting six for the first time since 1987 to register their first win in five games.

David Nugent got the ball rolling with an early penalty after Lloyd Dyer had been tripped in the box, then added a second before Dyer and Anthony Knockaert made it four before the break.

Martyn Waghorn curled in soon after the interval as the Foxes hit cruise control, before substitute Marko Futacs slotted in Dyer’s pass towards the end.

“You hope that, when you put in good performances, you can turn out a result like that,” Shakey said.

“I think our attacking play throughout the season has been outstanding, but we’ve missed chances, there’s no getting away from that.

“Today, it was important to get the first goal and, once we did, that it settled everyone down a bit.

“To then go on and score the number we did and share the goals around a bit – I thought it was very professional today from start to finish. It was a very accomplished performance.”

It was a performance to provide a massive confidence boost to Pearson’s side and send shockwaves through the npower Championship.

But with difficult trips to Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds United on the horizon, Shakey was quick to turn his attention to challenges ahead.

“In the dressing room at the end, it was a good place to be,” he said.

“To score six and for the defenders and goalkeeper to keep a clean sheet is great, but ultimately we know it’s only one game.

“It’s a tough league. We’ll probably play better and perhaps not get the result, so for the confidence it bodes well, but we have two tough away games to think about now.”
