Schlupp: It's An Honour

City star Jeff Schlupp has praised his defensive colleagues for helping him to develop his game after an impressive run of form at left back.
The Ghana international and Academy graduate is in contention to face Queens Park Rangers at King Power Stadium on Saturday afternoon, and despite first breaking into the side as a striker, seems to have settled into his new defensive role.

Saturday’s game against QPR could see City take another step towards the league title with a win, and after already securing promotion to the Premier League earlier this month, Schlupp admitted he was just delighted to be involved.

“I’m just happy to be play,” Schlupp told Foxes Player. “To be playing in a team that has just been promoted, it’s a real honour. I’m just happy to be playing, whether it’s at left back or striker, I’ll play anywhere as long as I’m on the pitch.

“It’s mainly my defending that I’ve been working on this season. My attacking wasn’t too bad because I was an attacker anyway. It’s just the defending that was a bit iffy, but I’ve come a long way.

“Konch (Paul Konchesky) is always helping me out with positional things as well as on the ball stuff. Then when I’ve got someone like Wes Morgan next to me with all his experience, it helps me a lot.”

If selected against the R’s at the weekend, Schlupp will likely face one of the toughest tests of the campaign as he comes up against a side fighting to gain momentum ahead of the play-offs.

The Foxes became the first team to defeat QPR at home in the league this season when the teams met at Loftus Road in December, and although Harry Redknapp’s side will try to ask questions of the City defence, Schlupp is relishing the challenge.

He said: “They’re obviously a good side and a hard team to break down. They’ve got a lot of quality in their team, but we matched them up [in December] and we came away with three points.

“When you’re playing against the lower sides they tend to sit in, and if they do nick an early goal then they just defend and hold onto it. When you play the bigger sides like QPR, they try to match up to you and bring the game to you as much as you bring it to them. So if anything we probably prefer to play those sort of games.

“It’s looking like QPR are going to make the play-offs and I’m sure they’ll want to go on a good run going into that and of course we’re hoping to win the title, so there’s a lot of things to be decided.”
