De Laet: Do Our Thing

Leicester City defender Ritchie De Laet is banking on the quality of the City squad to fire them to victory against Crystal Palace in the npower Championship on Saturday.

It was the Belgian full back’s long throw that led to Jeff Schlupp’s sensational winning volley in the 3-2 victory over Bolton last time out, and he is confident that the side can build on that performance at Selhurst Park.

The Eagles are in the middle of a poor run of form but still possess real talent with the likes of Wilfried Zaha and 30-goal striker Glenn Murray among their ranks.

However the 24-year-old summer signing from Manchester United has belief in the ability of his team-mates to come out on top, adding: “They’ve got good players and they’ve got quality otherwise they wouldn’t be up there. But if we do our thing then our quality will come through.

“We’ve got players like that too. Woody (Chris Wood) is scoring again now, Jeff (Schlupp) has been banging in the goals recently and Lloydy (Lloyd Dyer) on the side is rapid. We’ve got those type of players, so we’ve just got to look at those qualities and see what the game brings.

“It’s going to be a tough game as they’re up there in the table as well. They’ve been dropping in form lately, but again it’s an away fixture against a good team, so it’s a test but one we’re looking forward to.

“The Championship is one of those leagues where everyone beats everyone, that’s the kind of league it is. We just have to look after ourselves and take the positives from Tuesday night into Saturday.”

And there were indeed plenty of positives to take from the midweek win at King Power Stadium, as Nigel Pearson’s men fought back from being a goal down after three minutes to secure a 3-2 win over the league’s in-form team.

But more than anything, De Laet was delighted to be able to come away with a three points that meant The Foxes climbed back into the play-offs.

He said: “We needed the points, we knew that, and to take them off someone who is just above us is great for us. Apart from that we all worked really hard to get the points and we can now take that confidence into the next.

“It was good. You want to play those type of games against teams that are around you or above you. Those are the best games to play in I think.

“It was incredible against Bolton and the run we were on wasn’t the best, so to win against a team like that who are on good form means a lot to us and hopefully we can take that into the next three games.”
