Pearson's Praise For Disciplined Foxes

City’s boss Nigel Pearson hailed the consistency of his side after they moved to within three points of the Sky Bet Championship title with a record breaking 28th win of the season against QPR.
David Nugent’s 19th league goal of the season midway through the second half sealed a 1-0 win against promotion chasing QPR, who lost Benoit Assou-Ekotto to a second yellow card late on.

The victory moved the Foxes past their previous best total of wins in a season – 27 in the 2008/09 League 1 title winning campaign – and should Burnley fall to defeat at home to Wigan on Monday, or City win at Bolton on Tuesday, the Championship title will be theirs.

Afterwards, manager Nigel Pearson reflected: “It was a tight game and technically a very good game as well, but I just thought we dominated the best periods of the game, as simple as that.

“I think we showed a lot of understanding of playing different systems, we changed it around today and looked very comfortable. They were a decent side, with a lot of good players but we were able to keep their chances to a minimum and for the most part we dominated play. We were pleased to get back to winning ways today because it takes us that one step closer now to achieving what we set out to achieve.

“In itself, to win 28 games in a league season is phenomenal. For us to have been able to consistently churn out good performances is great. We’ve not had too many lucky wins where you could say we didn’t play well but we won.

“We’ve managed to maintain a really high standard of performance and I suppose since we’ve been promoted there has been a little bit of a drop off in how we’ve dominated games, but today I thought we looked very, very good.

“We were against a very good side and we were never going to get the opportunities to play the type of football that we’ve played in the past. Their game plan was to catch us on the counter attack, and for the most part I thought we were very disciplined.”
