Morgan: We're No Pushovers

City skipper Wes Morgan was delighted to see that the fighting spirit was alive and well within the squad after they twice battled back against Everton on Saturday.
Strikers Leo Ulloa and Chris Wood were both on target in the 2-2 draw at King Power Stadium, but against the Champions League chasing visitors, it was the resilience of Nigel Pearson’s side that really caught the eye.

Aiden McGeady opened the scoring in the first half before Ulloa levelled matters on his Leicester City debut. Then just before half time Steven Naismith found the top corner to hand Everton the lead and what looked like three points, that was until substitute Wood struck clinically four minutes from time to claim a point.

“It’s the first game and you never know what can happen, but the performance was important and something we can definitely take credit from,” said Morgan, speaking to Foxes Player.

“We played well, had a good chance through Jeff Schlupp and could have actually won the game. I don’t think there was much we could do about their goals.

“I think teams will look at us and realise we’re no pushovers, we’re not here just to make up the numbers, we’re here to do a job and perform in the Premier League.

“It was a great game for the fans and the neutrals and to come back from being a goal down twice just shows what we’re about. It was great character from the boys and a point was the least we deserved.”

Morgan himself impressed in defence alongside Liam Moore – Premier League debuts for both – which was no mean feat considering they were up against Everton’s record signing Romelu Lukaku, who was kept quiet throughout.

He added: “Obviously I’ve watched Lukaku in the Premier League over the last couple of seasons and I knew he was going to be a handful, but personally I like the physical battles in the game. I enjoyed it and personally I think I gave as good as I got and I hope he felt the same as well.

“He’s a very good player. He wouldn’t cost that much money if he wasn’t good. He’s been involved in the World Cup too so he may be a bit short of match practice at the moment and of his best form. He’s still a handful and gave me a good game.”
