Eadie To Lead Sellebrity Stars

Former City star Darren Eadie is set to lead a star-studded cast of celebrities and legends into action at King Power Stadium on Sunday 6 October as Sellebrity Soccer makes its Leicester debut.

Legends such as Iwan Roberts, Steve Walsh and Muzzy Izzet are all set to appear alongside celebrities like Adam Woodyatt, Mario Falcone and Gareth Gates in an effort to raise money for both LCFC Foxes Foundation and Alex’s Wish, which is Robbie Savage’s nominated charity.

Sellebrity Soccer, which has successfully raised huge sums with matches at Birmingham City FC and Norwich City FC, is the creation of Eadie, who spent four years with the Foxes from 1999, before retiring through injury at the age of 28.

And for the talented former midfielder, the chance to finally set foot on the pitch here at King Power Stadium will be a particularly enjoyable moment.

He revealed: “For me it will be the first time I’ve been back to Leicester since I left. I never had the opportunity to play at King Power Stadium - it was built when I was there but unfortunately I had a sustained period of injury, which led to my career finishing.

“So now I’m really chuffed to be able to bring my Sellebrity team and friends to King Power Stadium and raise money for the LCFC Foxes Foundation. There’s no better way to raise money for charity than having a laugh with you old mates and playing against some people you see on the TV.”

The match itself is a chance for the likes of Walsh and Izzet to roll back the years as well as giving Joe Calzaghe and Nathan Cleverly the opportunity to take on the former pros at their own game.

And while elite football can’t be promised, a fun-filled night of entertainment is sure to be in store as both the LCFC Foxes Foundation and Sellebrity Soccer give it their all in the name of charity.

Eadie added: “After finishing football it’s always hard to find something to replace something that you love doing. We did a lot when we were players in terms of visiting hospitals and charities but when you finish the game you’re on your own.

“For me it’s about the enjoyment of football, and using that to raise money for worthy causes. The celebrities are no different – they love to do things for charity when they can and they love their football too.

“I think people will be surprised as there are some decent players among the celebrities. Mario[Falcone] is a good player and so is little Jamie Borthwick from Eastenders, he’s decent.

“You’ll see some great football at times but then you’ll see some dreadful football as well. That’s what it’s all about, entertainment.

“Nobody wants to see a high-end game where nothing goes wrong, you almost want to see people mess up at times and fall over.

“We played a game at Northampton and Adam Woodyatt was going for it. At half time we said to him, look we want you to sit in the middle of the park and he took a chair on at half time and sat in the centre circle!

“They’re all good lads and they’ve given up their time to help us out, and it’ll be enjoyable for everyone. The more money we can raise, the better.”

Tickets for the match are priced at £10 for Adults, £5 for over-65s & 12-17 year olds and £1 for Under-12s. All are available to purchase from , so make sure you book your tickets early to guarantee you a seat close to the action.
