Beaglehole Delighted With European Win

Leicester City Development Squad manager Steve Beaglehole believes the element of surprise helped his side beat Schalke 2-0 in the Premier League International Cup at King Power Stadium on Tuesday.

The young Foxes took the lead through an instinctive finish from Joe Dodoo before captain Tom Hopper doubled their advantage in the second half.
Adam Smith pulled off a string of saves in the Leicester goal to deny the German outfit while City excelled in midfield, managing the ball well and hitting the opposition on the break when under pressure.
“I thought it was a terrific game,” said Beaglehole. “They didn’t disappoint in terms of their quality. In the second half they put us under severe pressure with the way they moved the ball but I was delighted with the way we dealt with that.
“Our first half performance was terrific. We took the game to them and I think we surprised them. We went ahead with a great goal, with Jack Barmby coming in off the line and playing a lovely ball into Joe Dodoo who finished it well.
“From then on, we grew in confidence and played some good football and passed the ball better than they did in the first half, which is pleasing.
“In the second half, we felt that they would come at us, and they pushed us back. They took a chance by pushing a lot of players forward. It was an opportunity for us to possibly catch them on the counter.
“We broke quickly and got a free kick. It was a terrific ball in from Jak McCourt, and Tom Hopper, reminiscent of the goal he scored against Manchester City a few weeks ago, got across the front of the defender.”
