Gallagher Looking To Bounce Back

City midfielder Paul Gallagher says the squad must move on quickly from their 2-1 loss to Charlton in the npower Championship on Tuesday night.

Back-to-back league defeats have opened up a nine point gap to second placed Hull City, who have played two more games, but the result was made all the more frustrating as it was a match the Foxes could certainly have taken three points from.

Chris Wood levelled from Yann Kermorgant’s opener in the 69th minute as Nigel Pearson’s men looked the more likely to go on and secure the win, only for a stunning long range strike from Danny Haynes to snatch the victory for Chris Powell’s side.

However with a trip to Blackpool next up on Saturday, Gallagher stressed the importance of bouncing back, saying: “You can’t dwell, especially in this league because there’s a game every three days and we’re confident we can go and get three points at Blackpool.

“We’ve hit a bit of a stumbling patch but with the players that we’ve got and the staff that we’ve got, we’re confident we can bounce back.

“It’s frustrating, but we knew that Charlton would probably set up that way and try and frustrate us and to be fair they probably did that in the first half.

“In the second half we played a lot better, and when we got the goal we thought maybe there was only one winner as we had the momentum with us, but we got hit with a sucker punch with the boy scoring a good goal.

“We just got our tails up by getting a goal back and that takes the wind out of your sails when you see a goal going in like that. We kept trying to knock on the door and force an equaliser but it wasn’t to be.

“We’re disappointed but you can’t get too disappointed because we’ve got another game in three days, and we’ll have to dust ourselves down and get ready for Blackpool.”

The 26-year-old winger has made five substitute appearances for City in the league this season after returning form his loan spell with Sheffield United, and admitted he was happy to be getting game time.

“I’m itching to play,” said Gallagher. “I haven’t played for a long time and I just want to play football and hopefully bring success to the club by helping the lads try to achieve what we’re trying to achieve in what has been a good season so far.

“We’re creating chances, we’ve got good players at the club, and even players that aren’t getting on the bench are good players. So we’ve got the positive that we can create chances, but it’s all about taking them, which I’m sure we can do in the next game.

“A few times we’ve gone five unbeaten and we need to get back to that – starting on Saturday. They’re a good footballing team, Blackpool, even though the pitch isn’t the best, but we can’t make excuses, it’s going to be like that for both teams.

“We’ve got a good record against Blackpool and if we can go there and get three points, we can build on that and hopefully we can get a little run going”
