Marc Albrighton was most pleased with the amount of goalscoring chances Leicester City carved out during their 2-1 Premier League victory over Swansea City at King Power Stadium on Saturday.

After dominating in the opening stages, the Foxes took a deserved lead when Jamie Vardy fired in off the post just after the half-hour mark.

Shinji Okazaki had an opportunity to make it 2-0 just before the break, only to be denied by a good stop from Swansea goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski.

But City began the second period with real intent and eventually doubled their lead through Wes Morgan, who hammered in from close range on 52 minutes.

Reflecting on Saturday’s clash, Albrighton, who signed a new four-year deal with the Club on Tuesday, told LCFC TV: “I thought it was a good game. We played some lovely stuff at times. We got the ball down and passed it and we knew that they were going to have a lot of possession and we dealt with that well.

“We got in their faces, won the ball back in good areas and passed the ball well ourselves. We created lots of chances and probably should have put the game to bed a lot earlier.

“It’s always good to get a goal before half-time, especially when you’ve been on top and had chances but not put them away. It can get a bit frustrating and you can get a bit restless but I think we dealt with it well, kept pressing and got the goal and it was fully deserved.

“I was a bit further back but on his line and to see it hit the back of the net was refreshing. After the way we played, we deserved a goal by then and to see Vards (Jamie Vardy) get off the mark so early on in the season is brilliant.”

Albrighton felt that the timing of captain Morgan’s goal six minutes into the second half proved to be pivotal to the win.

“It was important,” Albrighton said of City’s second strike. “1-0 is a horrible scoreline because no matter how much of the ball you have and the chances that you get, if you don’t put them away it just takes one chance for them to go up the other end and equalise.

“To get the second was a nice cushion and we were on top at that point, so it’s always nice to score when you’re on top.”

Riyad Mahrez was then denied by Fabianski from the spot, before Leroy Fer pulled one back with nine minutes to play for the visitors.

The header gave Swansea the opportunity to salvage a point from the game, but the Foxes battled late on to secure their first win of the campaign.

Albrighton added: “Obviously that [Fer goal] put a few nerves back in because we should have buried the game before their goal, but once they scored I thought we did well to see the game out and get the points.”
