As Leicester City prepare to welcome Porto to Filbert Way on Tuesday afternoon Marc Albrighton says the Foxes must focus on getting their preparation right.

A 3-0 win away to Club Brugge gave Claudio Ranieri’s top spot in Group B after the opening round of fixtures but they again come up against opponents vastly experienced in European competition in the form of Porto.

The 2004 Champions League winners are competing in their 21st group stage and arrive with a squad packed full of talent, but Albrighton knows that there are players in City’s own squad who can draw upon their own experiences in the tournament.

“Obviously the senior players are important in every game,” said Albrighton. “Some players have played in competition before and they can use their experience to guide everyone through.

“It’s a different way of playing to Premier League but they’re used to it. They help us through it – they did that in Bruges.

“Now with a game under our belts in the competition we can use that experience to our advantage for rest of tournament.

“Credit to us for how well played out there in Bruges. We were organised and got goals at good times. Tomorrow Porto will be equally tough, equally organised and compact. We’ve done work in team meetings and learned about Porto. There will be no stone left unturned.”

Albrighton wrote his name into the Club’s history books as the scorer of Leicester’s first-ever UEFA Champions League goal – the opener against Club Brugge earlier this month.

It was a strike that will live long in the memory of City fans and while Albrighton enjoyed it at the time, the victory is all he’s concerned with against Porto on Tuesday.

“Three points is the main aim,” added Albrighton. “We got off to great start in Bruges but need to win home games and that will take you far in this competition. I know it will be a fantastic occasion and we want to get off to a good start at this stadium. A win would put us in a good position go on in this competition.”
