Albrighton: Onus Is On Us

- The Foxes were edged 2-1 by Sevilla in their UEFA Champions League Last-16 first leg tie 

- Albrighton believes the onus is now on his side, as they aim to qualify for the quarter-finals 

Marc Albrighton knows qualification for the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League lies firmly in Leicester City’s hands after a on Wednesday. 

The Foxes were edged by just one goal in southern Spain after Jamie Vardy halved the deficit on 73 minutes to give his side a lifeline heading into the second leg. 

While beaten, Albrighton believes his team-mates can take confidence from their display at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium. 

The winger told LCFC TV: “Obviously the away goal is a massive consolation for us. We didn’t come here to lose the game at all. 

“We wanted to get a positive result but I think the away goal could be crucial in the tie and the main thing is to still be in with a shout going into the home leg and we’ve done that. 

“In the second half we played with a lot more confidence. Even before the goal, I think their second one came against the run of play. We’ve created a couple more chances and we had a lot more of the ball. 

“We took confidence from that and after the goal we played a lot more positively and calmer than we did before. 

“We know the onus will be on us now whereas tonight it wasn’t – it was fully on them.” 

City contest the second leg on Tuesday 14 March in Leicester and the importance of that game is not lost on Albrighton. 

He added: “We’ve got to go into the home leg with confidence and be positive with it. We’ve showed that we can play against this team. We’ve got to show no fear into that second leg. 

“We’re expecting a night to remember and hopefully given the right result we can make it one.”
