Albrighton Thrilled With ‘Deserved’ Win

Leicester City thoroughly deserved to advance to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League following a victory over Sevilla, says Marc Albrighton.

- The winger was delighted to be able to celebrate the strike with his family, who watched on from the stands at Leicester City Stadium

The winger was on the scoresheet to double the Foxes lead after Wes Morgan had earlier broken the deadlock with a finish from close range. 

Reaching the last-eight was an achievement that surprised some, but not Albrighton and his team-mates, who battled to a historic win. 

“It’s going to take a while to sink in because it’s a fantastic achievement for the Club,” said Albrighton. 

“We thoroughly deserved it and deserved the win on the night because we were a better side. Everything about the performance meant we deserved to go through. 

“There was a lot of good factors – the effort, the quality of the football that we played, our determination and most of all probably our belief. 

“People probably wrote us off before saying it was a step too far but as a group we believed and we know the fans did as well. It’s a fantastic night for everyone involved. 

“We knew it would be a special occasion and that the fans would turn up. They didn’t disappoint because it was everything that we thought it would be and more.” 

Scorer of the Club’s first-ever Champions League goal, Albrighton netted another special strike on Tuesday before wheeling away in celebration towards his family, who were in attendance on Filbert Way. 

Discussing his second goal in Europe, the wideman added: “I just wanted to hit the target and not shank it! Luckily it’s nestled in the bottom corner and it’s a feeling that will live with me forever. 

“My family were there and everything that I achieve, I want to share with them. This is no different – they’re a massive part of everything I do so to share special moments like tonight with them is fantastic.”
