Beaglehole Pleased With Under-23s' Unbeaten Run

- City Under-23s were dominant throughout but lacked the cutting edge to secure three points

Steve Beaglehole was pleased with the Leicester City Development Squad’s second half display during a at King Power Stadium on Monday. 

The Foxes threatened throughout but were unable to register their dominance with a goal in front of a buoyant King Power Stadium crowd of 3,425. This result leaves City one point above danger in the Premier League 2 Division 1 standings with just three matches remaining and Under-23s manager Beaglehole says he remains optimistic they will secure their survival ahead of the final run-in.

Addressing LCFC TV at full-time on Filbert Way, Beaglehole said: “I thought we were a lot better in the second half. We looked a little nervy in the first half, we got a lot closer to them as the match went on. If you look at the second half display, I’m disappointed that we didn’t nick it. 

“Both back fours were dominant against the forward players. They were resilient tonight and I thought we looked very good at the back. It's pleasing to see how we've improved in that area. A clean sheet is great and we’re becoming a side which is known for being difficult to beat.”

Beaglehole has also been buoyed by City’s form in recent weeks and, ahead of the visit of Liverpool to Holmes Park next week, they are unbeaten in five matches in all competitions. The boss, however, says it is vital that his young side win at least one of their remaining matches. 

“It’s a good habit to get into,” he added. “We were in a run where we were losing consistently so we we’ve made big strides forward in that department. We need three points. Reading have lost today and Derby lost to Manchester City in the week. 

“It’s there for us. One win may be enough. If we have the hunger and desire, which I believe we have, then we’ll do it. We got better as the game went on which gives us hope.”
