Leicester City Development Squad manager Steve Beaglehole was thrilled with the way his side acquitted themselves against Sheffield United on Tuesday evening.

The Foxes emerged from Bramall Lane with two Checkatrade Trophy points thanks to a penalty shootout victory over the Blades.

The encounter finished goalless after 90 minutes, before City went on to win it 5-4 on spot kicks, with ‘keeper Max Bramley denying John Fleck from 12 yards, while Ben Chilwell, Demarai Gray, Admiral Muskwe, Harvey Barnes and Layton Ndukwu converted their penalties.

“We’re very happy with that result,” Beaglehole told LCFC TV after the game. “We talked about keeping a clean sheet and we’ve done that. To come to Bramall Lane and keep a clean sheet is a great effort from the players because there won’t be many people that will do that.

“We can take that as a big plus point and then to finish it off and get an extra shootout was brilliant. All the penalties were finished excellently and Max Bramley was excellent in the 90-minute game and then made the save that got us the extra point.

“It’s one thing playing league games at main stadiums, and a number of these young players have had that experience, particularly at King Power Stadium, but to come to Bramall Lane and play against a recognised League 1 side is great.

“They’re a good outfit. They’re just starting to get into gear with that excellent win that they had Saturday. If you look at tonight’s fixture and result, it’s very promising for us.”

Beaglehole went on to praise Bramley for the way the young goalkeeper handled the pressure of coming on as a substitute at Bramall Lane.

He added: “I thought it was an excellent performance from Max Bramley. Max has really improved after coming back after pre season. He really has kicked on and he’s really improved.

“It’s a precious situation to come on for an outfield player, but even more so for a goalkeeper. He came on at a time when we were under the cosh a bit because they were very direct, but he came and showed a calmness and resilience, which I thought was top class.”
