Following Tuesday’s defeat to Wolfsburg in the Premier League International Cup, Steve Beaglehole reflected positively on the Development Squad’s first-half performance.

The Foxes went into the break 1-0 down after Oscar Zawada struck with three minutes of the first half to play, but City were unfortunate not to be in front by that stage themselves after Harvey Barnes earlier saw his header ruled out for offside.

Wolfsburg went on to win the game 3-0 after Anton Donkor netted a second-half brace, but Beaglehole felt his side deserved more from their Premier League International Cup opener.

“I thought we did very well in the first half and we were unlucky to go in 1-0 down,” Beaglehole told LCFC TV after the game. “I was really pleased with our first-half performance.

“We scored a goal from a set play which was disallowed for offside, but if that had gone in, it would have given us a big boost in confidence.

“We need to try and be in games longer an certainly go into half-time with a clean sheet, which was one of our objectives.

“We conceded just before half-time which was a blow because it came as a result of our own throw in, which was a blow.

“We went in 1-0 down and we said all the right things at half-time – the next goal was massive. If we get it, we could have gone on to win it, but they got it and we had a tough night.”

The Foxes next take on Chelsea at Aldershot Town on Friday evening in Premier League 2, and Beaglehole believes that is the perfect opportunity for his side to bounce back with a positive result.

He added: “We gave the lads some match time because we’ve got to go to Chelsea on Friday night and then we face Copenhagen on Tuesday.

“It’s fantastic in terms of the games programme and the number we play. There are so many games for our lads to be successful in.

“We need to get some points on the board and tonight, we gave a very good account of ourselves in the first half particularly.”
