Wes Morgan cut the ribbon on the refurbished children’s outpatients ward at the Leicester Royal Infirmary this week following a significant donation by the LCFC Foxes Foundation.

The Leicester City captain met doctors, nurses and patients in the city centre on Thursday afternoon before officially opening the revamped ward which was funded by £37,420 of donations made by Foxes supporters during the 2015/16 season.

The Leicester Hospitals Charity was selected last season as one of the Club’s official charity partners and has benefitted from the introduction of an uplifting, colourful and vibrant new environment for treatment and consultation, suitable for children and families alike.

The LCFC Foxes Foundation, which has raised £1.6 million since its inception in 2012, functions to help a number of Leicestershire charities, particularly those which focus on children and young people, health, education and human services in the region.

Sarah Faulkner, Sister at Leicester’s Hospitals, said: “Our new environment is wonderful and is something that we as a team had wished for many years. It is now bright, colourful and gives a warm, child friendly welcome to the children and families that visit our department.

We have had lots of families comment on how lovely the department looks now and the generosity of the Football Club for providing this. From the staff, children and families of children outpatients we would like to say thank you.

The Leicester Hospitals Charity has received nearly £120,000 since the foundation of the LCFC Foxes Foundation five years ago which has benefitted, among others, the OurSpace Appeal, Leicester Baby Loss Appeal and a children’s and young people’s cancer unit.

Morgan, taking time out from his schedule after training on Thursday afternoon, added: “To come to the hospital today to unveil the new outpatient ward for the children is fantastic. It’s good to see where the money goes and what it has done. To see how bright and vibrant the place is, it’s fantastic.

“It’s a big charity of ours, the LCFC Foxes Foundation, and to see how much money has been raised and where it’s being used is fantastic. Hopefully we can continue the good work and raise more money for projects like this.

“We do get to come down, mainly at Christmas, to see the children. It’s great to see their faces. They were perhaps surprised to see me today and it’s good to give something back to the community.”
