Craig Shakespeare: Assistant Manager To Combine Leicester Role With England

- Craig to assist England manager Sam Allardyce during international windows 

- Director of Football says the opportunity will benefit both Craig and City 

- Shakespeare expresses commitment to Leicester and excitement at dual role 

Leicester City assistant manager Craig Shakespeare will combine his work with the Foxes with an England coaching role, after taking up a part-time position with the Football Association. 

Craig, who signed a new contract with City this summer, will form part of the England coaching staff under new manager Sam Allardyce during international windows. His role and responsibilities at Leicester City will be unchanged. 

Leicester City Director of Football Jon Rudkin said:“This is a wonderful opportunity for Craig to broaden his coaching experience at the very highest level – experience that will ultimately be of benefit to Leicester City. 

“Craig’s professionalism and dedication is exemplary and I know the experience he develops with England during the international windows will enrichen the work he undertakes with us on a day-to-day basis. 

“We can also be very proud that such a central figure in our football operation has been selected to make what I’m sure will be an outstanding contribution to the development of our national team.”

Craig has been a senior figure in Leicester City’s football management since 2011, when he returned to the Club for a second spell under then-manager Nigel Pearson. 

After helping steer the Foxes into the Premier League in 2014 and keep them there a year later, Craig continued to play a pivotal role following the appointment of Claudio Ranieri, who guided City to our first ever Premier League title in 2015/16. 

Shakespeare, who completed his UEFA Pro Licence this summer, will join the England setup for the first time on 29 August, as preparations begin for the Three Lions’ opening 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifier in Slovakia on 4 September.
