Danny Simpson Signs New Three-Year Deal

- The right back played 31 times for the Foxes during the 2015/16 title-winning season 

- Simpson thanked the Club’s players, staff and fans for their support 

- The 29-year-old made his 50th appearance for Leicester City in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Swansea City 

Leicester City defender Danny Simpson has signed a new three-year deal with the Club, keeping him at the Foxes until at least June 2019. 

Simpson, 29, joined the Foxes from Queens Park Rangers in August 2014 and has gone on to play a huge part in the Club’s Premier League successes over the past two seasons. 

Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Swansea City marked Simpson’s 50th appearance for the Club and one in which he underlined his importance to the team with a brilliant performance as part of a back four who have conceded just 14 league goals this year.

The right back has been a consistent performer in a Leicester shirt, not least in the 2015/16 Premier League-winning season, in which he played in 31 of City’s 38 games. 

Simpson told LCFC TV:“I’m over the moon. I’ve been here two years now and the Club is going places. I’ve said all last season. The group that we’ve got here is so close and the manager since he’s come has helped me so much and still is helping me improve as a player. 

“It’s not just the players and coaches, but the whole Club. Everyone is just so close and it’s a special feeling. I’m happy that I’m staying here for another three years. 

“I came here two years ago and it’s always difficult coming to a new club. It took me a while to get my debut and get a few games but that was just because of the competition. I managed to get a run of a few games and the end of that first season, we survived. 

“I think has helped us a lot for the next season, because we knew what it meant to play in the Premier League. A new manager, Claudio, came in and you obviously don’t know whether you’re going to be playing. I was given the chance to play and perform and I felt I did that.” 

Simpson joined the Foxes in the summer of 2014 from Queens Park Rangers and quickly become both a popular and important member of the squad. 

The defender began his career with Manchester United, a team for which he made eight senior appearances alongside a host of loan spells, the last of which was with Newcastle United in the 2009/10 season. 

The Magpies eventually secured Simpson’s signature in 2010 and he went on to make 84 top-flight appearances in the black and which shirt before making the switch to Loftus Road with QPR in 2013. 

Now Simpson and his team-mates will look to defend their title as well as showing what they can do in the Champions League for the first time, and it’s a prospect that is helping build the good feeling around the camp. 

He added:"It’s just a buzz and I feel like in the last few games we’ve looked more like we did last season. 

“We’re loving every second of it and just enjoying it, and even though we are the champions, it’s not changed anything in the dressing room and at the training ground.”
