Leicester City will welcome a special guest when a young Foxes fan who recovered from cancer during the ‘great escape’ of 2014/15, Travis Hackett, travels from America to watch City face Sunderland.

Travis, 13, was diagnosed with T-cell acute lymphocytic leukaemia in 2014 and has followed the Club closely from San Diego, California since they clinched promotion to the Premier League three years ago. Diagnosed during a 13-match winless run in 2014, his remarkable recovery coincided with City’s transformation from relegation certainties to Premier League champions.

By the time City had secured their top-flight survival with seven wins from their final nine games, Travis had been confirmed as cancer-free. Still in medical maintenance, Travis was moved to tears when told by the Craig Willinger Fund via Skype this month that they had arranged for him and his dad Tim to attend the Premier League fixture between City and Sunderland on Tuesday 4 April.

Travis will travel to the United Kingdom next week, first spending the day in London, before staying in Leicester on Tuesday night. The Craig Willinger Fund strives to improve the lives of children and young adults diagnosed with cancer in the United States by providing once-in-a-lifetime opportunities such as this.

Since 2010, honourees have travelled to South Africa, Barcelona, Milan, London, Madrid, New York and Brazil attending high-profile sporting events including the FIFA World Cup and UEFA Champions League finals. For Travis, however, a trip to see Leicester City at King Power Stadium is just as special.

“This is a special trip of lucky 13s for us,” said Craig Willinger Fund Vice Chair Darren Rudham. “Travis is 13-years-old. He is our 13th honouree and 13 was the squad number of our founder, and namesake, Craig Willinger. We are incredibly blessed by both our honourees and the clubs they go to watch.”

Everybody at Leicester City is looking forward to welcoming Travis to King Power Stadium on Tuesday evening. Follow Travis on his dream trip to Leicester on and on using #cwftravis.
