Drinkwater Looking To Stamp Authority On Saints Clash

- The Foxes head to St. Mary’s Stadium on Sunday (12pm kick-off) 

- Drinkwater is aware of the quality the Saints have running through their side 

- The midfielder says he is beginning to return to full fitness after picking up a knee injury in December 

Danny Drinkwater has called for Leicester City to put their stamp on Sunday’s Premier League encounter with Southampton. 

A midday clash at St. Mary’s Stadium sees the Foxes take on a Southampton side that sit just three points above them in the table. 

The Saints have not won in their last four Premier League outings, but their solid performance during the goalless draw at King Power Stadium in early October underlined just how hard to beat Claude Puel’s men can be. 

“It’s going to be a tough game because we know the qualities that they’ve got in the team,” Drinkwater told LCFC.com. “It’s up to us to stop them by putting our stamp on the game. 

“They’ve got a game in the week and then us so if that helps us then good, but if it doesn’t then we know what kind of test it’s going to be. Hopefully we can go there and get the points.” 

After missing three Premier League fixtures throughout December with a knee problem, the midfielder has played in four of his side’s five games since then and says he is beginning to get back to full fitness. 

City’s No.4 continued: “I’m getting there and more importantly I’m just trying to help the team get back to where they deserve to be. 

“Game time is important for me and the fitter and stronger I get the better.” 

A senior member of the squad, now in his sixth season at the Club, Drinkwater says he is more than happy to help new players settle in, with Wilfred Ndidi the latest addition to Claudio Ranieri’s outfit. 

Discussing Ndidi’s involvement so far, Drinkwater added: “He’s an athletic lad. He’s tall and good on the ball so hopefully when he settles in he can spur us on. 

“The new lads coming in need time to settle in and everyone understands that. They’re working hard, but if me and Kingy (Andy King) and the other lads can help them then we’re more than happy to do so.”
