Leicester City Under-18s secured an impressive 3-1 victory over Leyton Orient in the FA Youth Cup third round at King Power Stadium on Wednesday night.

Layton Ndukwu's close-range finish in the 27th minute was added upon by a tidy Ethan Hodby goal in the second half and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall's late strike to book Trevor Peake's men a place in the next round.

The young Foxes started proceedings in determined fashion and went close with a host of early opportunities. First Ndukwu charged through the Orient midfield before Elliot Webber was dispossessed at the last minute.

Then, after 12 minutes, Simran Thandi ghosted into a pocket of space on the right flank, before offloading the ball to Kanya Leshabela but the City forward was forced out wide.

The visitors were a threat too, however, and they could have taken the lead when Josh Koroma skipped inside Darnell Johnson on the flank before playing in Sam Dalby.

To the relief of all in blue, though, it was scrambled off the line and City lived to tell the tale.

At the other end, Ndukwu was proving to be a real threat for Peake's men and he may have scored straight from a corner but for a last-ditch clearance from Koroma underneath the crossbar.

City pushed forwards in numbers and they got their due reward when Leshabela danced into the Orient area before cutting it across goal to allow Ndukwu to slot it past Sam Roach in the guests' net.

The hosts were enjoying a period of sustained dominance but Orient continued to be a threat on the counter. Toby Stevenson went close from 35 yards. His effort, though, was too high to trouble Cameron Yates.

After the break, the London outfit posed more problems and they almost levelled the scores when Alex Pascanu was forced to clear it off his line from Rian McLean's powerful header.

Despite their good work up front, it was still Leicester who looked most likely to score again and they didn't have to wait long to do just that.

Dewsbury-Hall was a menace throughout and when he ran at the Orient defence, after 72 minutes, Hodby was the beneficiary - slotting it past Roach to double the hosts' lead.

It got better for Peake's men as Dewsbury-Hall capped off a fine display with a brilliant finish of his own from the edge of the 18-yard box.

But Orient were desperate not to go down easily and they narrowed the deficit late on when Tristan Abrahams converted from 12 yards with just a minute of normal play remaining.

Either Barnsley or Carlisle United await the Foxes in the next round with Peake's side now looking ahead to the home fixture against Aston Villa at the weekend.
