Christian Fuchs believes Leicester City’s at The Hawthorns on Saturday afternoon was a reward for their collective defensive performance.

Jamie Vardy pounced in the 43rd minute to secure City’s 11th win of the season which puts them on 40 points, nine clear of the relegation zone with just 12 to play for over the coming weeks. Craig Shakespeare’s men contained their hosts for long periods and emerged as worthy victors.

Fuchs, speaking to LCFC TV at full-time, said: “It’s always hard to come here. When you’re playing against West Bromwich Albion, it’s always a hard fight. They’re always physical and strong. It was maybe scrappy at times but it’s three points and a great win for us.

“It feels good as we also scored. It always helps when we go up 1-0. It was a great goal from [Vardy] and we head home with three points. Obviously, for us as defenders, it is very important to keep clean sheets. When we’re able to do that, it gives us a great chance.

That’s what we have [Vardy] for, not only him but all the others. It was a great team performance, everyone was solid so compliments to all the team.

The Austrian full-back was also content with the effectiveness of City’s game plan and says victory gives his side an opportunity to further climb the Premier League table now they are just four points adrift of eighth place.

“We know how they play, they are very physical and play a lot of long balls, they have the players to do so,” he added. “I think we managed it pretty well. We just look at us, we have three home games and a nice away game at Man City. We want to get as many points as possible.”
