Christian Fuchs believes it was the fighting spirit that Leicester City were able to show on Saturday afternoon that was the key to their 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace in the Premier League.

The defender added the third goal in the King Power Stadium win – his first for the Club – but immediately paid tribute to the togetherness and desire in the team performance that allowed them to secure the vital three points.

Ahmed Musa also scored his first goal for the Club while Shinji Okazaki found the net too during an outstanding display, and one that stretched City’s unbeaten home run to 20 games – a streak extending back to September last year.

It came after a 1-0 success over FC Copenhagen at home in the UEFA Champions League, but with a tough start in the league, Fuchs was delighted to be able to add another three points to their domestic total at the expense of a tough Palace side.

“It’s a second good win this week at home at King Power Stadium,” he told LCFC TV. “We need to collect points, especially in the Premier League as the UEFA Champions League has been good so far. It was a great game, everybody gave their best and I’m happy that I scored my first goal.

“We stuck together as a team, we fought for every inch on the field and that’s how we were successful last season. I think we found our performance again and we’re looking forward to the next couple of games.”

Musa’s goal arrived at a crucial moment, just minutes before the break and Fuchs believes it helped give the team the necessary boost to push on and score more in the second half.

He added: “We’ve had that a couple of times this season where we simply scored at the right time. When Islam [Slimani] scored his first goal at home it was just before the break too. Then we came out after half time and scored another couple of goals.

“I got the third and I’m very happy about that. It was a corner kick and I already saw the space at a couple of corners before that and eventually, although Riyad [Mahrez] didn’t mean to, he found me via the defender and I saw the ball coming. I wanted to hit it as hard as possible. It seemed to take forever but fortunately it found the net.”
