Guppy: Fine Margins

LCFC Radio commentator Steve Guppy believes Leicester City’s Premier League defeat to Manchester United could have gone either way, based on the Foxes’ first half display. 

The former City winger was on hand to call the action at King Power Stadium on Sunday, as Jose Mourinho’s men . 

While three goals in seven minutes ultimately sealed the win for Man Utd, Guppy felt Leicester were unfortunate not to go in front themselves. 

Speaking on after the game, Guppy said: “For a large stretch of the first half it was very even and I suppose it’s fine margins at this level. Leicester really had a go for 40 minutes and you have to say there was nothing in it. 

“You knew a goal the other way could have meant Leicester were on the front foot. Manchester United got that and it really did affect Leicester, and as a consequence they went 2-0 down. 

“It was always going to be a long way back. At the start of the second half, you’re thinking they may have a chance to build, but they conceded straight away and it really did knock the stuffing out of Leicester. 

“The first half could have gone the other way. We could have conceivably seen Leicester go 2-0 up. It was that sort of game. 

“The way it’s been going for Leicester recently, once they conceded that goal it was a dagger to the heart. They could have rebuilt and gone again, but it shows that maybe the confidence is a little fragile at the moment.”
